Rediscovered Art

The Angel of Chelsea

Nov 30, 2025

This week’s installment of the stories behind the art and life of James Yale features Emily Hartley, The Angel Of Chelsea.

A year ago at the Generational Journey’s Art Exhibition at The Medium gallery space, it was the first time in over 16 years that James’ artwork was viewed in public. It was a group bridging generations that James would be proud to be a part of. It was a joyful occasion where I met a swirl of people with stories about James the man and artist.  I had Cory Myers on hand to video some of their stories, and that evening had led to the second year of the James Yale Legacy Project, and added a new resume title my bag of tricks–Sleuth. This adventure and production at this stage of my life can be daunting, the odds impossible…and then the FUN kicks in as I watch a dedicated Nancy Drew team come together joining me on this adventure in following the clues each week to discover the stories behind the art and the man, James Yale.

That evening at The Medium became a life celebration on the anniversary of James leaving planet earth, and gathered together were three of James’ muses: Su Mi, Lissa, and Emily. I could kick myself that I didn’t photograph them all together at the time.

Today’s post is Emily’s interview about The Angel of Chelsea that can be viewed here:

Also included is the rediscovered working sketch recovered by Matt Meers-curator of the James Yale Legacy Project.

Enjoy!
