Rediscovered Art

The Construction of the Basin Park Hotel

Sep 2, 2025

This week’s post  in honor of Labor Day is James Yale’s pen and ink of “The Construction of the Basin Park Hotel”  in Eureka Springs, Arkansas.

James’ inspiration for this drawing was from a photograph taken in 1904.

It is one of many architectural renderings James’ created for his contribution and dedication to historical preservation.

Through his architectural renderings, he captured numerous buildings in NW Arkansas for the Preservation of History.

Several of James architectural renderings for Bentonville and Bella Vista were commissioned by Helen Walton, but so many of the others were inspired by James’ rush to capture these historic buildings before they were torn down as he fought for their preservation

Growing up in the Ozarks as a young man, there were few opportunities for art classes. The closest he came to learning his craft as an artist was through taking drafting and engineering courses that led to him passing the architectural exams while in high school in Missouri.

I do not know if “The Construction of Basin Park Hotel” was commissioned or who owns the original… the sleuthing continues as we all rediscover the stories behind the art of James Yale… Charlotte
