James Yale in Eureka! The Art of Being

Oct 16, 2024

A fabulous poster can and has changed my life at times, and propelled me to  change course. The same is true of a short video.

When I first moved to Eureka Springs 22 years ago, I knew no one. I only knew of the artist James Yale through a collectible benefit poster for him. It was a poster that made me curious enough to detour into the Basin Park Hotel. I didn’t know what it was all about. I didn’t know who the image of the catfish Mer-man was with his bottom half submerged in the water and his striking face looking at the viewer with a paintbrush in hand, rearranging the clouds in a very blue sky. I wouldn’t know until I walked through that door that this master painter created these beautiful paintings while living with Multiple Sclerosis. That unforgettable poster by the artist Max Elbo did bring Mr. Yale on my radar, and six years later we would marry.

I  want to thank L. Kai Robert for generously letting me add James’ voice from the documentary “Eureka! The Art of Being”, that was shown during the Generational Journeys art exhibit through September 2024. It was the first time James’ artwork was shown in public for over sixteen years. Kai also agreed to have the three minute excerpt of James talking about his art and philosophy of life available to share with all of you on his new website.

They say three’s the charm. The third thing is that Kai also has joined team James Yale to work with me on the documentary, “The Lost Artist of the Ozarks”.

Kai Robert’s full video documentary, “Eureka! The Art of Being…where creativity, wonder, and passion flourish,” explores the artistry in all of us. The artists in this documentary are all James’ contemporaries.

Always a proponent of shameless advertising, I would like to let you know that the “Eureka! The Art of Being” documentary is available for rent or sale on Amazon. CLICK HERE TO SEE THE VIDEO ON AMAZON.COM. Oh, and one more thing, we are all artists. ”To Affect the Quality of the Day is the highest of Art”. Enjoy the excerpt below.
